Yes, friendship can be possible after a situationship, but only when both people can genuinely accept the new position without using friendship to preserve romantic access or possibility.
Friendship is hardest when one person still wants the old connection back or hopes friendship will eventually restart it. The title may change while the emotional structure remains the same. Time apart can help reveal whether the friendship is real or simply a softer continuation of the situationship.
Changing the label to 'friends' does not automatically change the attachment or expectations.
